Nellie Abela’s involvement in the world of purebred dogs began in the 1970’s when she initially owned a number Dobermanns and Rottweilers

In 1988, she purchased her first Bullmastiff, a bitch that became a big winner and set many breed records in Australia.  This bitch became the foundation of her breeding kennel and was to influence her future show career which eventually led her to gaining a license to judge Utility breeds in 2004.

Nellie has successfully bred and shown Bullmastiffs under the well-known “Powerbulmas” prefix, combining imported and local bloodlines to produce over 60 Champions both locally and internationally.  The kennel was the first in Australia to produce and campaign a dog to the prestigious Grand Champion title, exclusively handled by Nellie.

As an Administrator Nellie’s involvement includes the position of Secretary for The Bullmastiff Club of NSW from 1989 to 2005 and during this time she was awarded Life Membership of the Club.

She is a long standing Vice President for the prestigious Liverpool & District All Breeds Kennel Club, a past Vice President for Southern Highlands Kennel & Obedience Club and currently is a committee member for the Dogs NSW Library and Archives Committee and PR Committee

As a member of the steward’s panel for Dogs NSW, she regularly stewards for many clubs, which includes The Sydney Royal Easter Show, one of the largest dog shows in Australia.

Nellie is an ANKC licensed Utility Group, Non Sporting Group & Toy Group judge and has judged these groups extensively throughout Australia, New Zealand, RSA, Ireland and UK.
